Die Gründer-Story - Bookhoover®

The Founder Story

We are delighted that you are interested in the story behind our startup Bookhoover®. It began with a perfume cap, a speed reading course, and the tireless desire to revolutionize the world of reading.

Daniel, the founder of Bookhoover®, faced the challenge of balancing professional reading material with personal interests and hobbies. Like many of us, alongside his job as a development engineer, he had many other interests and passions that found too little space in his life. Reading and absorbing knowledge from books was important to him, but he often seemed to lack the time and energy.

The decisive turning point came when he took a speed reading course and realized that his reading habits played a major role. He decided to delve deeper into this topic and sought tips and tricks from experts such as Jim Kwik, Tony Buzan, and Tim Ferris. He realized that improving reading speed was not just about reading faster, but also about efficient reading and overcoming outdated reading habits.

The eyes play a crucial role in this, as they absorb information. Daniel realized that almost everyone is capable of reading faster than most of us do. This very ability can be applied to printed and digital texts. By targeted control of eye movements with a reading aid, old habits can be overcome, and reading can be made easier.

Initially, Daniel used various methods such as his index finger, pens, or narrow objects as a reading aid. But none of these solutions were satisfactory. Pens and objects required sustained effort to guide the eyes, and the index finger was too short and not ergonomic enough.

This led to the idea of developing a reading aid that combined both – the Bookhoover® was born. Daniel received active support from Mana, a doctor and illustrator, who helped develop the design and has since been an integral part of the Bookhoover® team.

The first prototypes were created using 3D printing and allowed Daniel to guide his eyes more comfortably through the lines of text. With the integrated pen, he could also write more ergonomically. But that was just the beginning. Everyone has different preferences for pens and finger types. As digital writing also became increasingly important, the idea for a stylus for digital handwriting emerged.

The development of the Bookhoover® was a long process during which numerous designs and functions were tested. There were many failed attempts and variants until the first final Bookhoovers® were created. The positive reactions of the first testers at home were an encouraging confirmation that this product offers added value.

As a small startup, developing one's own product is always a challenging journey. However, Daniel and Mana are determined to continuously develop and improve the Bookhoover® experience. Your feedback and support are invaluable, as it is only together that problems can be tackled and learned from.

Conclusion: in every book, there can be a small sentence that can achieve great things and initiate changes. Reading expands our horizons, allows us to experience other places and times, and inspires us to new discoveries. Daniel and Mana hope that the Bookhoover® brings you as much joy in reading and writing as it does them and helps you to read more efficiently and, above all, more.

Best regards,

Daniel and Mana from Bookhoover
