When we were very young, we were taught to use our fingers to guide our eyes and move over the words we were reading. As time progressed, our teachers insisted that we stop.
After all, we were growing up and didn't need to read like little children anymore. This is a mistake, because we need guidance for our eyes when reading.
This has many benefits, such as regulating reading speed and avoiding the time-consuming habit of re-reading everything you think you might have missed, also known as regression.
I love watching baseball. I am always amazed at how fielders can catch a ball hit very high. I have noticed that on cloudy days, fielders are less successful at catching the ball. I quickly realized that players use the ball as a guide. As long as they paid attention to the direction, they could follow the ball clearly and easily. On cloudy days, they tended to lose the ball in the clouds, thus not benefiting from the ability to track it. The same applies to speed reading.
One of the most important speed reading techniques is to use a guide. We know that our eyes naturally follow a stimulus.
That's why I was very pleased to use a new product called Bookhoover.
The device fits comfortably on the finger and has a pointer that we can use while reading.
This device improves the ability to read quickly by providing a very natural extension of the finger. I would not say that I like to use a finger to guide my eyes while reading, because fingers are too thick and cover some words.
The Bookhoover solves this problem by having a long, thin guiding pointer.
An additional benefit is that the pointer can be quickly removed, revealing a pen, so you can take notes without having to remove the device from your finger. This is a very innovative device."
