Warum uns "Digital Detox" gut tut - Bookhoover®

Why "digital detox" is good for us

In today's fast-paced world, we are constantly surrounded by digital devices. Whether smartphones, tablets, computers, or televisions - screens have become an integral part of our lives.

But how much time do we really spend in front of these digital companions? According to current studies, Germans spend an average of around 6 hours a day in front of screens – that's an incredible 42 hours a week! These figures are alarming and show how urgently we need a digital detox.

In this video by Dr. Johannes Wimmer, some studies on smartphone use are humorously summarized and more information on the topic of digital detox is provided:

📵 Why is digital detox so important?

Digital detox doesn't mean rejecting technology entirely, but rather building a healthier relationship with it. Here are some reasons why such a detox can be crucial:

1️⃣ More time for essentials: By reducing our screen time, we gain valuable time back that we can use for creative hobbies, social interactions, or simply relaxing.

2️⃣ Better mental health: Excessive screen consumption can lead to stress, sleep disturbances, and concentration difficulties. A digital break can improve our mental health.

3️⃣ Increased productivity: By minimizing distractions, we can increase our productivity and complete our tasks more efficiently.

💡 Tips for a successful digital detox:

🚫 Set clear boundaries: Define fixed times when you use digital devices and stick to them. Plan screen-free breaks.

💤 Screen-free bedtime: Avoid screens for at least an hour before bed to promote restful sleep.

📴 Prioritize offline activities: Rediscover offline activities like reading, walking, sports, or talking to friends.

📵 Use self-control apps: There are apps that can help you monitor and limit your screen time.

📆 Digital Detox Day: Plan one day a week without digital devices. Use this time to consciously be offline.

Turn off notifications: Disable unnecessary notifications on your smartphone to minimize distractions.

😒 Blah Blah Blah?

Even if I can't hear the term "Digital Detox" anymore, there's just something to it. A digital detox can have a positive influence on our lives and lead us to a more conscious use of technology.

In this context, I would also like to introduce you to Tanya Goodin, a renowned British expert on digital health. In her works, she examines the effects of excessive screen time and offers practical solutions for a more balanced relationship with technology:

😬 Have we already made you feel guilty?

You don't have to, even we have a screen time of 5 hours in some weeks, because we post and research a lot due to Bookhoover - but those are just excuses again!

With that in mind, Bookhoover wishes you a wonderful time without screens & bells and whistles.
